The house is sited awkwardly on the block, making any extensions problematic. We concentrated on reprogramming the existing areas. Our first design studies kept the living areas to the front of the house near the entry and took advantage of the views over the adjacent park

We then reversed the house and put the living areas to the north for solar access and proximity to the rear garden The northern part of the house is now opened up to the rear garden and the sun.

The large sunny northern living space now has a 3.6 metre ceiling height. A large and high pergola protects the south western glazing from the low angle sun in summer.
